The Rainforest

Art work, displays, songs and music have been part of a consideration of the environment by Year 2.  A superbly ambitious play will round off the work on the rainforest this term.  The children have had fun researching the habits of rainforest creatures  - their choices included the sloth, humming bird, snake and anaconda.

Things came to life when the rainforest actually came to Berkhampstead.  Year 2 experienced an amazing “Life in the Rainforest” workshop. They learnt about creatures from the giant millipedes of the forest undergrowth to the camouflaged praying mantis of the canopy.

They got up close - and in many cases touched the creatures including beetles, tree frogs, corn snakes, stick insects and tarantulas.

The children clearly loved it and asked plenty of questions about diet, how far various creatures could jump, and of course there were plenty of poo type questions too!

A really super opportunity become inspired, to face fears, to ask questions and gain a real hands-on understanding of the topic.
